Blogimaskotit - Introducing the blog mascots

Tunnustan, koko blogia ei olisi ellen olisi nähnyt kaverini blogin ulkoasua. Se sai aikaan luomisvimman, jonka tulokset näkyvät nyt tämän blogin bannerissa ja taustakuvassa. Piirtelinpä vielä muitakin kuvia, mutta tyylillisesti nämä sopivat parhaiten yhteen.

Koska näiden hahmojen rooli on niin merkittävä, ne ansaitsevat aivan oman esittelyosuutensa.

Aloitetaan bannerista. Nokkava turkoosi hyppelehtijä on nimeltään Dazzle. Nimi pomppasi päähäni heti luonnoksen tehtyäni ja piinkovalla varmuudella. Dazzle on leikkisä, kaikinpuolin aurinkoinen persoona. Vaikka sen siivet eivät ole vielä täysin kehittyneet, Dazzle maistelee tuulien tuntua antiloopin loikin.

Toinen ilakoija on Do'ien, lannistumaton enkelikoiran ja helvetinhurtan pentu. Do'ien karkotettiin syntymänsä jälkeen Taivaasta, eikä Helvettikään sitä huolinut. Pentu vaelsi yksinään porttien välisessä autiomaassa, kunnes alkoi erottaa sävyjä harmauden keskellä. Tomuinen maa versosi vihreää ruohoa ja ravitsi korkeuksiin kurottavia puita. Sumu hälveni ja paljasti kuulaan sinitaivaan. Do'ien näki harmauden kaikki värit ja huomasi ensi kertaa kuinka sarasteen vaaleanpuna helmeili sen turkissa yhdessä järkähtämättömän graniitinsävyn kanssa. Pentu, joka ei ollut tarpeeksi hohtava Taivaaseen tai tarpeeksi sysimusta Helvettiin oli nyt juuri oikean värinen.

Lopuksi taustan pinkojat. Heillä ei ole vielä omia yksilöllisiä nimiään, mutta heidät tunnetaan nimellä Team b*Axed (lyhentämättömänä Team Bunny Axed). Kaksikko on oikea pelleduo. Kaikenlaiset hyväluontoiset pilat kuuluvat heidän repertuaariinsa. Joskus kuitenkin pilan kohteeksi joutuu myös toinen b*Axed, jolloin salamannopea kosto on taattu. Ei silti syytä huoleen, nauravainen b*Axe on vain pehmolelu.

Huh, esittelyt ovat pulkassa. Hyvä, eihän näitä voi pitää paikallaan kauempaa.

Ok, I confess. This entire blog owes its existance to the layout of my friend's blog, which slammed me with inspiration, the fruits of which can now be seen on the banner and background of this blog. Actually the inspiration lasted long enough that I drew a bunch of other pics, but the ones here fit best stylistically.

As these characters had such a significant role in birthing this blog, they deserve their very own introduction post.

Let's start with the banner. The beaky, turquoise hippity-hopper (totally stole that term from Happy Feet) is called Dazzle. The name came to me immediately after the sketch was complete and with a certainty I rarely feel when naming characters. Dazzle has a playful, altogether sunny personality. Even though his wings are not fully developed yet, Dazzle dips into the feel of the winds with effortless antelope hops.

The second merry-maker is Do'ien (pronounced like Doyen in TES: Oblivion), an indomitable angelhound and hellhound's puppy. After he was born, Do'ien was banished from Heaven, only to find the gates of Hell would not open for him either. All alone, the puppy wandered the wastes between Heaven and Hell, until a bit by bit he began to see different shades in the surrounding greyness. Blades of grass sprouted from the dusty earth and nourished the trees reaching ever upwards. The ever-present mist thinned out and revealed the clear blue sky. Do'ien saw all the colours of the grey and noticed for the first time how the pink of the dawn horizon shone in his fur along with the shade of unyielding granite. The puppy that was not dazzling enough for Heaven nor raven-hued enough for Hell was now just the right colour.

Finally we come to the sprinters of the background. They yet lack individual names but are known as Team b*Axed (Team Bunny Axed unabridged). These two are a true clown-act. All manner of good-natured pranks are a part of their repertoire. Sometimes however the other b*Axed finds themselves on the receiving end of a prank's collateral damage, which calls for swift retribution. No worries though: the laughing b*Axe is just a stuffed toy.

Egads, that's that for the intro. Good, I couldn't have kept the sillies put for much longer.
